Ontario Road Ecology Group
The Ontario Road Ecology Group (OREG) is championed by the Toronto Zoo. As an organization comprised of government and non-government scientists, educators and transportation planners, our goal is to raise awareness about the threats of roads to biodiversity in Ontario and to research and apply solutions.

Road Ecology is the study of the interactions between road systems and the surrounding natural environment.

Southern Ontario has the greatest biodiversity in Canada and the highest density of people and roads. Situated in Rouge Park, the largest urban wilderness park in North America, the Toronto Zoo, through OREG, is committed to conserving Ontario’s biodiversity by researching road ecology issues and mitigating the negative effects of roads (e.g. habitat loss, fragmentation and degradation and wildlife vehicle collisions).
