2007

This year's Turtle Tracking Event was held on Sunday, July 8th at 2pm.  Though the skies were threatening and the heat was intense, approximately 15 naturalists showed up to learn about turtles in the area.  After a brief talk about the Urban Turtle Initiative and about Ontario's turtles, we ventured along the edge of the Rouge River to track one of our turtles.  This year we had a new addition to the Event: our life-size snapping turtle model!  We attached a transmitter to the model and participants had a great time tracking the "turtle!"  Thanks to the Rouge Park Naturalists for organizing the participants, and thanks to everyone who came out!

2006

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Turtle Tracking Event was not held this year.  Check back frequently to find out about other Adopt-A-Pond events that you can become involved in!

2005

The 2005 Turtle Tracking Event was held on Sunday, August 14, at 2pm.  The cool temperature made for great hiking weather, and the light drizzle didn't stop us!  We spent about 20 minutes listening to a wonderful presentation put on by our own Adopt-A-Pond staff, then we were off into the Rouge Valley for a hike to Turtle Land.  We tracked two of our turtles, Franklin and Abetzi, to some of their favourite log piles, and had a look around, but our turtles are very good at camouflaging and we did not see them.  All in all it was a great day, with a great group of hikers.  We hope to see everyone out again next year!

2004
This year's Turtle Tracking Event was held on Sunday, June 13th at 2pm.  There were many excited nature goers who showed up to brave the bugs as we listened to a wonderful presentation put on by our own staff.  This was followed by a hike through the Rouge Park to a beach where one of the turtles in our study can sometimes be detected.  And Franklin did not let us down!  It was exciting for all who arrived to hear the beeps of Franklin's transmitter get louder as we got closer.  This year's Event was a great time for everyone of all ages and backgrounds!

2003
On Tuesday, May 27, 2003, Adopt-A-Pond held its second annual Turtle Tracking Event in the Rouge Valley. Fifty people participated in this event where participants learned about Ontario's turtles, turtle conservation efforts and Adopt-A-Pond's Turtle Tracking Project.

2002
On Sunday, August 11, 2002, Adopt-A-Pond, along with the Rouge Valley Conservation Centre, held its first annual Turtle Tracking Event in the Rouge Valley. Thirty people showed up to hike the trails of the Rouge Valley, and then participated in four turtle learning stations. The participants learned about the Adopt-A-Pond's Turtle Tracking Project, about Snapping turtles, hibernating and nesting behaviors. The group also tracked a turtle using radio telemetry, a technique used in the Adopt-A-Pond study. Thank you to all who came out and participated in the summer heat, and a special thanks to Bill Lewis and everyone at Rouge Valley Conservation Centre.
